The story behind the agent
From tram driver to Metricon's first agent.
In 1976, Peter Nicolls stepped off the Melbourne tram he was driving, walked into a real estate office, and applied for his first job. That decision placed him alongside Mario Biasin — the man who would co-found Metricon, now Australia's largest home builder. Peter became Metricon's first dedicated sales agent, marketing their homes across Melbourne from North Dandenong to Ringwood, Patterson Lakes, Clayton South, Oakleigh, Hallam, Narre Warren, and Berwick — a 12-year exclusive arrangement as Metricon grew from an 8-person team building 20 homes a year to a national powerhouse with 2,500 staff.
In 1982, Peter founded KR Peters Real Estate — a family-owned, independent agency built on six values: knowledge, dedication, integrity, teamwork, community, and opportunity. Four decades later the agency spans Melbourne's south-east and outer east, and has become one of Melbourne's most awarded independent project marketers — with two consecutive REA Land Campaign of the Year wins (2022 and 2024) and a portfolio of 15 active land estates.
What makes Peter's story unusual is that he never stopped selling. Most founders move to management. Peter still personally conducts appraisals, runs campaigns, and stands at the microphone on auction day. When you call, you get Peter — not a PA, not a junior agent, not a team.
"I started working with Mario in 1976 when I got off the tram I was driving and applied for a real estate job. He was a 25-year-old accountant at the real estate firm where I got my first job."
